Statement:

Our culture has confused living with shopping, patriotism for righteousness, and ignorance as political awareness. This confusion has blinded us to the vast diversities of life beyond what is commercially represented. We are a culture preoccupied with consumption and unwilling to acknowledge the responsibility of such gluttony. In my artwork, I am confronting our society’s guilt of being removed from reality.

About the Artist:

Brian Morgan is a Chicago artist, living and working in the area since 1999. His work has been shown in small galleries, bars, art walks, Around the Coyote, and the occasional political gorilla poster on telephone poles. A self-taught artist, Morgan paints and illustrates from his home studio in Ukrainian Village. His current clients include the Sun-Times News Group, for whom he illustrates ideas for feature stories, and a silk-screening company called Nonaffiliated Clothing. Morgan has free-lanced for corporate ad agencies, web designers, tattoo artists, bands, and small businesses.

His work was recently featured in Billiards Digest Magazine (March, 2007), where they referred to his painting as “a haunting example of modern expressionism.” Two of his works were featured in a Red Streak article (March 3, 2003) about artists and their timeless role in the anti-war movement. In that article he was nestled in between two long-time influences: Leon Golub and Tony Fitzpatrick, a personal highlight for Morgan.
